*Conditions Apply* is a zine that reflects on the differences and similarities as well as juxtaposes the ‘Indian Experience’ as experienced by National Indians vs. Non-Residential Indians(NRI). Why is it that there is a clear division between the two groups of people in terms of “Indian-ness”. This zine takes you through a conversation, between an Indian raised overseas and one raised in Mumbai. It is titled “Conditions Apply”, as a reference to the way Indians would only consider an NRI as one of their own when certain conditions have been met. Otherwise, you are seen as different.
The cover design is inspired by older Indian design trends of dramatizing text using strokes, drop shadows, and using a heavy display typeface. Each individual’s dialogue is color coded to distinguish between the two. The binding as well as the way the content is presented is kept very simple so as to not take away from the content itself.
